Nurcan Atalan Helicke, associate professor of environmental studies and sciences, published in the Journal of Critical Global Issues.
Yelena Biberman-Ocakli, associate professor of political science, published in the Hastings Bioethics Forum and was invited to serve as an academic associate at the Centre for Biomedical Ethics in Singapore.
Eunice S. Ferreira, associate professor of theater, was honored with the Outstanding Alumni Service Award from the Tufts Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She returned to 吃瓜爆料 this fall after serving as the 2022-23 at MIT. She delivered a plenary talk on Cape Verdean theater at the American Society for Theatre Research. As a dramaturg, she recently collaborated on three new plays by Black playwrights, including the February premiere of 鈥淗enry Johnson: Ballad of a Forgotten Hero鈥� by Rachel Lynett, on a commission from Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany.
Kim Golemboski, director of health promotion, recently gave an invited presentation titled "Upstream Approaches 鈥� How Campus Wellness Departments Can Support Counseling Centers" as part of BetterMynd鈥檚 鈥淐ollege Counseling Leaders Discuss This" webinar series. The presentation focused on the active partnerships between Health Promotion's Peer Health Educator program and the Counseling Center to reduce stigma, break down barriers to accessing support, and offer trained peer-to-peer resources.
Ryan Homsey, director of academic advising, led a talkback during the and Albany Film Festival鈥檚 screening of to discuss his creative process of composing music for the feature documentary, which has been included in the official selection of 14 international film festivals.
Sara Lagalwar, associate professor of neuroscience, gave an academic talk, "Understanding disease and searching for cures: the use of cultured cells in biomedical research," to at Saratoga Springs Public Library. The Saratoga Reads book club is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year by re-reading "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot.
Dorothy E. Mosby, dean of the faculty and vice president for academic affairs, delivered the second annual Manuel Zapata Olivella World Languages keynote address, 鈥淏lack is Black: Understanding Blackness, National Identity, and Diaspora in Central America,鈥� at the 83rd College Language Association convention in Memphis, Tennessee.
Laurie Rabinowitz, assistant professor of education studies, co-presented at the with Sophie Levy 鈥�25 and David Salinas 鈥�25. Their presentation, 鈥淟eaving Dolls Behind and Deflecting Bullets: Decategorizing Children鈥檚 Play Through an Intersectional Approach,鈥� drew from their summer 2023 faculty-student research. Rabinowitz also organized and chaired a panel discussion, "Disability Sustaining Pedagogy: Lessons from Teachers with Disabilities for Teacher Educators," at the same conference.
