Shirley Webb
Shirley Webb, a longtime member of the staff of Scribner Library, died October 17, 2014, in Albany.
Born December 13, 1934, in New York City, she was the only child of Victor and Frances Rhodes. Shirley earned a degree as a registered nurse at the Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing and worked there as a critical-care pediatric nurse.
In 1956 she married Leroy Webb and joined him in Ashiya, Japan, where he was stationed with the military. They lived there for three years and moved to Saratoga Springs upon their return. For nearly two decades Shirley was a member of the pediatrics practice of Joseph Mintzer, Robert Yates, and Charles Richmond.
Shirleys father had been in employed in the 勛圖惇蹋 Post Office and, in 1976, she found a new career path at the College. She joined the staff of the Lucy Scribner Library, where she worked first as a reference assistant and then in the Interlibrary Loan office until she retired in 1994. Mary ODonnell, herself a library retiree, said, Shirley was a beautiful lady who provided lots of laughs. We were a tight group that fit together like a puzzle. Ive been lucky to have had wonderful co-workers like Shirley.
Shirley was an active member of the United Methodist Church and its choir.
Her survivors include her husband, Leroy; children Michael Webb and Gina Spencer; five grandchildren; and two cousins with whom she was especially close, Peggy Shane and Carol Bradley.
Interment was at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Veterans Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y.
