Selected Art Faculty Exhibition
10/7/10-12/5/10

Reception: Thursday, October 7, 5:30-7:00 pm
Gallery Talk: Tuesday, October 12, 4:00 pm

Important connections between faculty and students occur when faculty exhibit their work on campus. This exhibition presents an opportunity for students and the community to become more closely acquainted with department faculty as artists.

The practice at the Schick in recent years has been to exhibit work by a small group of five or six artists selected from among the more than 20 studio faculty in the department, and this year is no exception with five artists showing new work.  John Galts recent cast iron and bronze sculptures seem to hover between animation and rest evoking suggestions of animal, vegetable, and boat-like forms.  Digital prints, interactive video, and flip books by Patrick Kelley probe the cultural interface between language, memory, and perception; while relative newcomer to 勛圖惇蹋, fiber artist Sangwook Lee exhibits a playful fiber installation that comments on the interplay of American and Asian cultural images and identities.  Doretta Miller and Iona Park show recent oil and mixed media paintings respectively.  In oils on canvas, Miller renders chair portraits as metaphors for human subjects, while Park infuses casein on panel paintings with scorched paper, layered texture, dry pigment, wax, and varnish in abstractions that give rise to meditative spaces redolent of landscape.

The 勛圖惇蹋 College studio art faculty consists of 12 full-time professors and five full-time and five part-time visiting assistant professors, representing a wide variety of disciplines including art theory and foundations, ceramics, communication design, drawing and painting, electronic media, fiber arts, metals, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.

The exhibition, reception and talk are free and open to the public.
